Kristan Bromley (born March 7, 1972) is a British skeleton racer who has competed since 1996. Competing in two Winter Olympics, finshing fifth in the men's skeleton event at Turin in 2006.
Bromley's best finish at the FIBT World Championships in the men's skeleton event was fourth twice, earned in 1999 and 2005.
Skeleton sled work
Nicknamed Doctor Ice by the British media because he earned a PhD from the University of Nottingham in 1999 with a thesis entitled "Factors affecting the performance of skeleton bobsleds". When not competing, as of February 2006, Bromley also works as a research officer at the University of Bath and is the founder of the company Ice Sport Technologies.
He appeared in an episode of Discovery Channel's Building the Winter Games documentary, showing his preparation for the 2006 Winter Olympics, building his sled, and being introduced to the Cesana Pariol bobsleigh, luge, and skeleton track for the first time.
Personal life
Bromley's girlfriend is Shelley Rudman, who won the silver medal in the women's skeleton event at the 2006 games in Turin. Rudman received her medal while Bromley competing in the men's skeleton event.
Bromley was sponsored by King of Shaves in the two years prior to the Turin games.
