Şahin Giray is Last Crimean Khan. He was born in 1745 in Edirne. He studied in Greece and Venice. He spoke Tatar Language -main language-, Ottoman Turkish, Italian and Greek. When he was 20, his uncle Crimean Khan Kırım Giray called him to Crimea. Then, He became Commander of Nogai Horde. In 1770 Russia won a great battle against the Ottoman Empire. Russia wanted alliance with Crimean Khanate. But, Crimean Khan of this time , Selim Giray was angry with it. Suddenly, Russia attacked Crimea. Tatars didn't have any solution. Şahin Giray sent to St. Petersburg for peace. Catherine II wrote about him: " Crimean Prince is most gentle Tatar, I saw. He's very talented, good-looking and writing poetries. He wants to see and learn everything. " In 1776, Şahin Giray became Khan of Crimea. He re-built Crimean Khanate, did reforms about economy and government, opened factories in Crimea, moved Capital city to Trade city, Caffa . But, he agreed Russians' offer. He gave Crimea to Russia . He moved to St.Petersburg. He wanted to move to Edirne. Russia and Ottoman Empire agreed this offer. He and his family entered Edirne in 1787. He went to Istanbul, his family stopped in Edirne, and Rhodes. He executed in Rhodes in 1787. His grandsons live in Bursa, Istanbul and other Turkish cities.
