The 2014 India-Pakistan border skirmish are a series of armed skirmishes and firing exchange between the Border Security Force and Pakistan Army along the Line of Control (LoC) in the disputed Kashmir area and Punjab. Military officials and media reports of both countries gave different accounts of the incident, each accusing the other of initiating the hostilities.
Incidents
In July
- On July 16,One BSF soldier was killed and three other injured when Pakistani Rangers resorted to unprovoked firing on forward Pittal border outpost along international border in Arnia forward area of R S Pura in Jammu district.
- One injured BSF dies in hospital on wenesday
- On july 20 and 23, two civilian from Azad Kashmir was killed in Mirajke after the Indian BSF and pak forces allegedly opened fire.
In August
- On August 6, an Indian soldier, allegedly trying to cross the border from Bajwat sector in Sialkot, was arrested by the Pakistan Rangers. He was freed two days later on August 8.
- On August 24, two civilians were allegedly killed by the Indian Army during firing in Sialkot region. However, the BSF maintains that two Indian civilians were also killed by Pakistani firing.
In October
Early October, Pakistani military official alleges that India violates the ceasefire and opened fire in Pakistani village near Sialkot after which Pakistani military responded. Later, Pakistani Interior Ministry condemned the LoC violation by Indian.
- On October 3, a 17-year old girl was killed in cross-border firing by Pakistani troops in Poonch district while four other civilians was injured.
- On October 6, Indian Border Security Forces (BSF) personnel retaliated to Pakistani fire along the working boundary in Sialkot, as a result of which four people were killed while five others sustained injuries. Inspector-General of the Indian BSF Rakesh Kumar alleged, however, that Pakistani forces shelled the village of Arnia, killing five and wounding at least three dozen civilians.
- On October 7, one women was killed in Charwa sector during firing by Pakistani troops.
- On October 8, eight people were killed and three injured as Indian security forces retaliated with firing and shelling in the Chaprar Sector. Two women have been killed and 11 people have been injured as Pakistani troops targeted 50 security outposts along LoC.
- On October 9, two civilians were killed on the Pakistani side in cross border firing by the Indian Army.
- On October 9, two women were killed on the Indian side as Pakistan engaged in unprovoked ceasefire violation.
- On October 9, the Defence Minister of India, Arun Jaitley warned Pakistan saying "If Pakistan persists with this adventurism, our forces will make the cost of this adventurism unaffordable."
