Hi, I'm Omar Khan, was posting in the Babur and Mughal section.

Hi,

I think it is essential that we do not allow these Pan-Persian's destroy our sections as they are busy spreading their hatred and poison in other sections, its better we stop this straight away.

As you can see, they try to invent and distort history, I mean how can anyone with an ounce of knowledge and historical knowledge claim that Babur was Persian, that his army were Persian that the Mughal Empire was Persian, we all know its total and utter nonsense.

The Iranian Encyclopedia is hardly objective or an authoritive source while Britannica is and is why I use it.

I don't understand why these guys are getting so freaked out, all I stated was a simple known fact that Babur was a Turk, wrote and spoke the language even wrote an epic literature book in their language.

This is just common knowledge and realities, another reality is "Moghul" is a unique culture to the Indian Sub-continant. It is neither Turkish, nor Persian, it is Moghul which has elements of Turkish-Mongol-Persian culture but is overwhelmingly Northern Indian and what is today Pakistani culture, the Sikhs, Punjabi's, Pashtun's, Hindi are ultimately what shaped and made the Moghuls what they were and influenced the culture we to some part share today.

It is definately in no way some sort of Persian colony like this disturbed guy would like to pretend it would be.

I would like to add these sources to clear up the matter and bring some objectivity to the article which is already good but needs a little clearing up and editing.

For example, stating clealy that Babur was originally from Andijan region, was a Turk in language and culure and thinking with a thin strain of Mongol blood in him. That he was not Turco-Persian, he was either Turkic or Turco-Mongol, the Persian part is an utter fabrication.

Here are some objective sources.

Britannica Encyclopedia

Babur came from the Barlas tribe of Mongol origin, but isolated members of the tribe had become Turks in language and manners through long residence in Turkish regions. Hence Babur, though called a Mughal, drew most of his support from Turks, and the empire he founded was Turkish in character. His family had become members of the Chagatai clan, by which name they are known. …

Babur, the new conqueror of Delhi, had been ruler of Kabul, the capital of Afghanistan, for 20 years. Racially, Babur was a Turk with a thin stream of Mongol blood in his veins; therefore, notes Hambly (1968), the term 'Mughal' by which he and his descendants were known in India was really a misnomer. In Persian, the word Mughal, always highly pejorative among the civilized inhabitants of Iran or Mawarannahr, simply means a Mongol. It is clear, however, from Babur's writing that he considered himself a Turk. Although Babur was descended on his mother's side from Chingiz Khan's second son, Chaghatai, it is clear that this Mongol lineage meant less to him than his paternal ancestry which linked him with the great Turkish conqueror, Timur.

-- Brend, B. (1991). "Islamic Art". Cambridge, Massachusetts: Harvard University Press.

Andijanis are all Turks; everyone in town or bazar knows Turki. The speech of the people resembles the literary language; hence the writings of Mir 'Ali-sher Nawa'i, though he was bred and grew up in Hin (Herat), are one with their dialect. Good looks are common amongst them. The famous musician, Khwaja Yusuf, was an Andijani

I certainly don't disagree with the points you made on User_talk:Burg_Hambler, but I do suggest that when making similar points in future that you adopt a more friendly tone. Please assume that the editor is well intentioned and refrain from insults. This user is 1 or 2 days old, and may well develop into a productive and constructive editor with a little encouragement. With thanks, Colonel Tom 14:47, 13 May 2006 (UTC)

Ha ha, that's sort of right ... :) . The correct one would be "Tumi khub bhalo korecho" or "Tumi khub bhalo kore chhile", but I couldn't have written anything similar in Telegu or Kannada at all. Thanks. --Ragib 04:16, 15 May 2006 (UTC)

Hindi article

I am tired of people like you always rubbing out the fact that hindi is the official langugae of the Indian Union. I have reverted your edits. If you have not read the constitution (Art 343), please read it on the net. Hindi is the first official language of the union and this status is not shared by it with the rest of the 21 scheduled languages, including Tamil, Telgu and Malayalam, whatsoever. It is no use saying that Hindi is (just) one of the several official languages.Cygnus_hansa 20:19, 18 May 2006 (UTC)

Please read things carefully before jumping to conclusions. The Article 343 clearly states that "Clause (1)—The official language of the (Indian) Union shall be Hindi in Devanagari script". It does not say that Hindi is the offical language of the central govt. And even English does not share this same status with Hindi. It is the associate official language. The Hindi version of the constitution is solely authoritative.Cygnus_hansa 20:41, 18 May 2006 (UTC)
Offical means official--ie, of the government. It is understood as such. I never said that Hindi is the language of India. And as for your doubt on authoritative version (made in 1960s, and not 10 yrs ago): Here is Article 394A: (3) The translation of this Constitution and of every amendment thereof published under this article shall be deemed to be, for all purposes, the authoritative text thereof in the Hindi language.Cygnus_hansa 21:44, 18 May 2006 (UTC)

Continous major Edits of same nature without any explanation, Why?

Within a short span of time you have removed Akshardham temple Image from 7-10 articles without providing any logical reason. Do you have any personal problem with this image? Major edits like this which are not based on any logic and reason shouldn't be made without discussions on talk page because they reflect personal agenda of an editor. - Holy Ganga 19:30, 19 May 2006 (UTC)

Rajputs and Buddhism

I don't really understand why Rajputs and Buddhism was redirected to Rajputs and Indian secularism in the first place, or why Rajputs and Indian secularism has a section about "Support of the Buddhism". That would make sense if Buddhism were a kind of secularism, but it isn't. Can you explain? - Nat Krause 21:43, 19 May 2006 (UTC)

Sukh's RFA - Thanks!

Thank you for your vote on my RfA. Unfortunately there was no consensus reached at 43 support, 18 oppose and 8 neutral. I've just found out that there is a feature in "my preferences" that forces me to use edit summaries. I've now got it enabled :) Thanks again. Sukh | ਸੁਖ | Talk 15:47, 20 May 2006 (UTC)

Akshardham Disambiguation

Thanks for your efforts about akshardham disambiguation..

However I agree with Holy Ganga about removal of Akshardham Images..

I personally think the Akshardham is one of the facets of Modern hinduism.. I would suggest to add a section about Modern Hinduism in the main Hinduism article and then putting various links like Arya Samaj, ISKON and BAPS movement related links there.. (this may include various modern temple images there)

Bindis

Some Indian women don't wear bindis. Many urban women don't. It's not even universal among the working classes. See this Flickr photostream , of New Delhi housemaids; many have bindis, just as many don't. Many of the non-bindi women are older women who are not widows (not wearing white), and thus extremely likely to be married.

If you're going to insist that all Hindu married women wear bindis, you're going to have to present some evidence other than bare assertion. Zora 20:48, 23 May 2006 (UTC)

IM, you can't make statements about ALL without some kind of reference. Universal statements can be disproved with one counter instance. Statements about some are safe if you have several instances. There are millions of women in India and you have not met all of them. You can't make statements about all of them. You don't KNOW. If you can find a quote, we can say that such-and-such authority says that all traditional Hindu married women wear bindis, or should wear bindis. We don't put universal statements into WP on the basis of one person's opinions. Zora 22:29, 23 May 2006 (UTC)

Hi - user:Siddiqui is concerned about the edits made by this person to Rajput-related pages, adding Shakha ancestry, etc. You are more experienced with the Rajput pages, so I request you to please have a look to see if anything's wrong. Thanks, Rama's Arrow 16:03, 25 May 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for your response. Siddiqui might be alluding to the "Saka" tribes. Nevertheless, if the problem is so obvious, we need not worry. Rama's Arrow 16:19, 25 May 2006 (UTC)

Hi

Hullo, sir. You are right in saying that I am interested mostly in matters of caste and community. However, in no way am I trying to cause caste or community wars on this site. Look at the page, Khatri. It has been vandalised so many times, even before I placed the box there. Its talk page continues to be a battlefield. Surely, I am not responsible for all that.

As for your castigation, well I agree with you. It is my mistake that I started editing on this site when I should'nt have. I should have just read. To tell you the truth, I have become so addicted that I am neglecting my other tasks. Hence, I thank you for your advice. From now on, I will just read and not edit. Thanks. See how particular u r about Belgaum. Why didnt u allow Belgaum written in Marathi there? You chose to revert Kasargod but didnt allow Marathi name in that article. You must be knowing that Belgaum is dominated by Marathi speaking population?

(mahawiki 17:14, 30 May 2006 (UTC))

As said earlier Mudhol,Bagalkot,Bidar,Karwar,Afzalpur,Dharwad,Hubli and so on also have sizeable no. of Maharashtrians. Why isnt this mentioned in that respective article? If you are talking about 'disputes' will u allow the details about how Belgaum's mayor was mandhandled by Kannada Vedike?Or how in a democratic country like India,Marathi newspapers were banned in disputed region? Response

I agree with the points that you have made, Sir. I remember you asking me to delete all the boxes that I have uploaded on different pages. Well, even if I try to do that now, somebody or the other will revert the edit. I would rather that you, in your capacity as an administrator and consequently having more powers could do the job better.

As far as the saying about bringing up children is concerned, I do understand what you are trying to say. I agree I took your advice the wrong way. My apologies for any hurt caused.

P.S. Er... thanks for calling me a child(read immature)(albeit in hidden tones). However, I am not ashamed of these tags. Indeed, I do think that childhood is the best chapter in human life; a time when one is innocent and does not have to care about keeping the wolves of the world constantly at bay. I revile the loss of my childhood to this day. Rajatjghai 06:34, 1 June 2006 (UTC)

DYK

Hello ImpuMozh, thanks for your nominations. They are both interesting articles, but I declined to feature them because they were listed in the 2 June section and thought that they fell outwith the 120 hour time limit at the time I did the updating. Looking at the history again K. B. Sundarambal could qualify as being unstubbed by you on 7 June. If you re-nominate in the 7 June section I am sure all updaters will give the article due consideration. History of measurement systems in India looks to fall outside the age guidelines however. Hopefully that helps. --Cactus.man 13:59, 8 June 2006 (UTC)

You're welcome. One minor point to note is that the nominated article should be formatted to appewar in bold text. I've fixed your entry, but something to bear in mind for future. Keep up the good work and happy editing. --Cactus.man 14:59, 8 June 2006 (UTC)
Just FYI, it's good to include any useful images with your nominations. I've added Image:K.B.Sundarambal.jpeg to the nomination. Good luck, hopefully it will be featured. --Cactus.man 16:38, 8 June 2006 (UTC)

Tatra revert wars

You're welcome. He's back today for the next round. I've left a notice on WP:ANI. Although this doesn't technically touch 3RR, it sure is disruptive edit-warring. Fut.Perf. 08:58, 13 June 2006 (UTC)

Seems like there's some quite strong and swift action from admins: . Let's hope that restores some peace for a few days. Fut.Perf. 11:36, 13 June 2006 (UTC)
As you said you believed him to be a sock, I've put the cat on his user page too. By the way, I wasn't even aware of all the background - just saw him being obnoxious on dab's user page. Fut.Perf. 13:54, 13 June 2006 (UTC)

He came back as User:Carbur today. Cheer up, ImpuMozhi - you may be targetted by a tenacious troll, but that just means that everyone else is on your side :) There is a fair amount of madness on Misplaced Pages at any given moment, but in each particular case, I have learned, sanity prevails in the long run. dab () 10:16, 14 June 2006 (UTC)

Dear ImpuMozhi, thanks so much for your support during my recent successful request for adminship. I really appreciate it, especially from a veteran here like you! Nair Tharavads

My knowledge in this area is very limited. IMO very few of the families listed in List of Nair Tharavadus are notable on their own. It will also be very difficult to collect authentic data on them. My suggestion is that we can create a single article on Nair Tharavads (tharavad literally means a family home or family) and copy the contents of the existing individual articles and the point the individual articles to this page. Tintin (talk) 05:36, 16 June 2006 (UTC)

I concur with Tintin. Most of the famalies arent notable on their own. All these articles should be merged to an article like Nair tharavadukal ( Tintin, thats Manglish ;-) ) or the already existing List of Nair Tharavadus (off topic: Manglish again + tharavadu isnt a proper noun. List should be renamed IMO). -- thunderboltz06:02, 16 June 2006 (UTC)

Impumozhi, can I create a single article or do we need to raise this in notice board and get the consensus ? Tintin (talk) 07:14, 18 June 2006 (UTC)

DSI

Hi, you've been doing some great work on this by listing articles on DSI - at least 3 articles saved in the last 1 week! I added the cat Category:User Misplaced Pages/PROD patrollers to ur userpage. Feel free to rmv it if you believe it to be inappropriate. Brian J.G. Pereira doesn't appear to be Indian; I though it best to let you know rather than remove it myself from DSI. Keep up the good work!! --Gurubrahma 05:49, 18 June 2006 (UTC)

I saw his image too but wasn't fully convinced, probly since his article did not mention anything abt India. I will add it now. You can close AFDs that are not delete cases; however, you need to wait for the five days period before doing that. btw, check out external links in Manikonda Chalapathi Rau, seems to be very notable. --Gurubrahma 06:00, 18 June 2006 (UTC)

Gauri / Gowri

Hi. I've left your meaning for the name after your last edit, though I've left a question on the talk page. However, the appropriate spelling according to IAST (and any other phonetic) convention is with 'au'. I've therefore replaced Gowri with Gauri again. Cheers, Imc 07:12, 18 June 2006 (UTC)

Question

What is up with the Rajput sockpuppets? I blocked the User:Y Not incarnation and he spewed venom on my talk page when the block expired. The whole history behind the vandalism is lost to me; I thought you might be able to fill me in. Cheers -- Samir धर्म 03:24, 23 June 2006 (UTC)

Thank you for filling me in, my friend. In the context of all that had taken place, I see that your advice to ignore him is definitely the best course to follow. I will also look out for further socks. Take care -- Samir धर्म 04:58, 23 June 2006 (UTC)

Re: You are mistaken

The three-revert rule is inviolable by troll and good user alike. If there is a problem with sockpuppets on an article, there are several legitimate methods of dispute resolution available to you. Edit-warring in a content dispute leaves all involved parties on equally shaky ground. (ESkog) 17:23, 27 June 2006 (UTC)

I think there was a misunderstanding here - the episode ESkog was warning Telex about did not involve the Rajput vandal but a minor annoyance over Balkan-related issues. Bit of trolling involved too, though, and I think Telex was right in general. ESkog, about the other instance ImpuMozhi was quite right: there is a notorious banned abuser against whom all the finest arts of adminship have not found a remedy so far, and daily mass reverts have been the only help for weeks now. 3RR doesn't apply against banned users.
By the way, ImpuMozhi, I understand you are still personally troubled by the guy, right? I'll always be willing to help if there's anything I can do - it's just that I haven't got the equipment to make these many fast reverts the way Telex does them. Let me know if there's anything I can do. Fut.Perf. 19:30, 27 June 2006 (UTC)

I shortened the "hook" sentence (as Lar would call it), because "to the end of his life" sounds a bit redundant for me. I try to reword all the entries so that they contain the least words needed to make people curious and click on the bolded link. If people can learn all about the DYK item just by reading the hook, it is a poorly worded hook, probably too long. Keep up the good work! Regards, Kimchi.sg 05:09, 29 June 2006 (UTC)

Hi Impumozhi, this is regarding our old discussion with the Rajput reverts... Do you think there may be a sockpuppet revert war going on on both sides? The various sockpuppets of DPSingh etc. are being reverted by users such as User:Muhammad al-Islami and User:Scabbers the Rat. The funny thing is that the only contribs of these people have been to revert the actions of DPSingh and co. Could this be to avoid WP:3RR. I know that the arbcomm ruled against DPSingh and co. Then why would anyone need to be afraid while reverting their "Rajput" actions? I ask you because you are the only person I have interacted with on this issue.
On a separate note, you are doing a great job on the India related AFD sorting. Please let me know if I can help on that. -- Lost 10:20, 29 June 2006 (UTC)

Sahasranama(m/n)

While I won't rise a stink about your suggested move, I don't understand where the final -m is from. The term is a triple compound, viṣnusahasranāman-, a tatpurusha built on top of a dvigu, "the thousand names of Vishnu". Unlike a bahuvrihi, it should inflect just as its head, nāman- which is a neuter n stem, it's nominative being nāmā. Grammatically correct IAST titles would be either viṣnusahasranāman (the stem) or viṣnusahasranāmā (the nominative). viṣnusahasranāmam is ungrammatical, except maybe if you want to make it a bahuvrihi "a thing whose names are the thousands of Vishnu" or "the thing whose thousand names are Vishnu" or something like that. But since the article title is determined by popular usage, not by grammatical speculation, you can certainly make the move as long as you don't claim it is the grammatically correct form :) dab () 15:02, 29 June 2006 (UTC)

you mean the anusvara, but you are mistaken. viṣnusahasranāman- is the grammatical stem, and doesn't occur as such, at all. It probably doesn't even occur naked in native Sanskrit grammar, it's an abstraction, and becomes visible only when things are added, for example in the accusative viṣnusahasranāman-am (here, the final m becomes an anusvara). Anyway, that's grammar. If you tell me people in modern India call it the "sahasranamam", for whatever reason, that's good enough for me, and I won't object to a move at all. dab () 20:50, 29 June 2006 (UTC)

Thank you very much for your kind words. I was not offended, but it was good to be reminded to check my contributions to see if I was accidentally being biased against anyone, not just India! I'm pleased you agree I'm not!

On the same subject, as luck would have it another India-related article has fallen at my feet and you may be able to help.

On Articles for Deletion today was the article Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev. The people on AfD agreed that it was a speedy deletion candidate - the gentleman's article made no assertion of notability. However, in the middle of the article was a nice little stub about something else - the Isha Foundation.

So rather than deleting, I moved the article to Isha Foundation, cleaned it up and closed the AfD. However, protocol really requires that I reopen it on the new article; also I don't know if the new article is about a notable organisation.

Would you be so kind to me as to ask people at Portal:India to research and comment? I looked to see if the portal keeps track of deletions but it appears not to. I'd be very grateful if this was possible.

The deletion discussion is at Misplaced Pages:Articles for deletion/Isha Foundation.

Thank you very much for your help! ЯEDVERS 20:37, 29 June 2006 (UTC)

My ER

Hello ImpuMozhi,

I just wanted to thank you for your wonderful comments on my editor review. I acknowledge the fact that Misplaced Pages is as addictive as any other drug, and I'm sure to try to prevent myself from falling into the trap, especially with exams already begun today. Cheers and thanks again!--May the Force be with you! Shreshth91 20:33, 1 July 2006 (UTC)

possible copyvio

I am too inexperienced and would appreciate a second opinion on the article Big Brother (Australia series 6). From reading the documentation it appears that the intent of the page is to supersede the use of the original program by retelling its story in a non-critical fashion. The number of screen-shots is much more than necessary to simply identify the program. Perhaps I am misunderstanding the documentation. I would appreciate your help in this area. Thanks. Hi - you've brought in some great pics! great work! This Fire Burns 04:20, 4 July 2006 (UTC)

Hahaha, I just changed my signature. Your question is not a fair one to ask to any WP user - insomnia, and being nocturnal is the most important qualification. As for sleep, I don't see what good that'll do - I once had a dream that every single of my 12,000 edits had been reverted and myself blocked! I had to log in to make sure! Many thanks my friend - your Gujarati is not only quite good, but you also taught me the Gujarati for birthday! I can go head-to-head with farmers in Kathiawad and Kutch, but didn't know what "Vad-divas" meant! This Fire Burns 15:19, 4 July 2006 (UTC)

Brahmanism

Thanks for the message. I don't know what is afd means and don't know what Brahmanism is.

Ram Kumar AFD

Hi, I too was not very conversant with the relisting but it is quite simple. You just need to comment out the Afd from its original date listing log - e.g. <!-- {{Misplaced Pages:Articles for deletion/G Ram Kumar}} Relist July 5 --> and transclude it to the latest date (July 5 in this example)log. Additionally, you'd need to add the {{subst:relist|~~~~}} to the AFD page of the article. After having a look at Deathphoenix's contribs, I believe he has, by oversight, not added it to the then current date log, 30th June. I've also moved it to the top of Deletion sorting India list. --Gurubrahma 06:48, 5 July 2006 (UTC)

RE: Suggestions

1. Each of those pages contains the {{GR|India}} template, which takes us to the general GR page where we are again directed to the relevant hyperlink, being this. Can we possibly cut this whole trip out, by providing the link as a citation on the page itself? Perhaps something like what I have done on the Mudgal page. Would you be able to accomplish this by running your bot through all the newly created pages?

I initially programmed the bot to add the reference to the article itself. But someone on the bot approval page, suggested the use of the GR since that is the convention followed when linking the same URL to thousands of pages. User:Rambot did the same for the US town articles that it created.

2. The new pages create wikilinks for "As of 2001" which links to the general 2001 page, which is rather pointless. Perhaps it could be left out.

As of link is also per convention. Please read Misplaced Pages:As of.

3. In the infobox, the '(s)' in "District(s)" is superfluous, since no village can lie in two districts. Can we likewise leave that out. And congratulations on the great work you have done in creating the bot! Awesome technological prowess. Here I have been trying to get the hang of creating maps and even that much I am unable to do! Regards, ImpuMozhi 17:39, 14 July 2006 (UTC)

User:Saravask should be able to answer this question, he is the Indian infobox guru. But I do remember seeing a City being part of multiple districts. Don't have a reference right now. I am sure Savarask can answer that.

Thanks for the complement. Let me know if you have more questions. - Ganeshk (talk) 05:30, 15 July 2006 (UTC)

Minor

Hi,

Thanks, I have kept it as Minor... (as most changes, that I have made are of those types). But I should remember to take that tick off, when doing a major structural change. Thanks..

Hi

It has been a long time since we interacted. Only, it is now that I have realised the true meaning of that advice that you gave me when I was making boxes on castes.

It is real funny but today I find myself in the position you were when you lectured me on keeping a NPOV. Let me explain why.

I created a template called Castes and Tribes of the Punjab with a view to studying the caste and tribal groups that exist in what was the ancient Punjab region (Punjab (Pakistan), Punjab (India), Haryana and Himachal Pradesh). My intention, unlike any Ibbetsons, Todds or Cunninghams was to study these groups from a purely anthropological perspective sans any controversy so that people visiting this portal would get to know about the huge mosaic that my province (I am a Punjabi) is.

I started with a few groups. But soon enough the groups began to increase. For the sake of brevity, I grouped them under Categories. As the template evolved, I learnt not to name any category speculatively.

The final categories were:

  1. Brahmin groups.
  2. Dalit groups.
  3. Jat clans.
  4. Khatris and other groups.
  5. Rajput clans.
  6. Shaikhs and other groups.
  7. Tarkhans and other groups.
  8. Others (groups to which i could not attribute any specific status).

In the last (Others), I also included groups such as Kamboj, Khasa, Ahir and Gujjar. However, Satbir Singh separated them and bunched them under a new category called "Surviving Ancient Kshatriya Tribes".

Since that day, a revert war has been on between the two of us. According to Satbir, these groups such as the Ahirs (the ancient Abhiras), the Gujjars (Gurjaras), the Khas (the Khasas), the Kamboj (Kambojas) and Yadav (Yadavas) are ancient Kshatriya tribes mentioned in a number of ancient Sanskrit texts.

My own personal opinion is that all this is true. However, some points must be noted:

  1. The Varna System is a topic subject to a lot of controversy and dispute. I have been noticing this in recent weeks. Pages such as Khatri, Rajput, Kayastha and Bhumihar have been vandalised because many people don't agree with the Varna status of these groups.
  2. If the Ahirs, the Gujjars, the Khasaa, the Kambojas and the Yadavas are Kshatriya groups, then so are the Rajputs, Jats, Khatris, Tarkhans et al. I did not create a category entitled "Kshatriya groups" in the first place because I knew I was treading on soft ground. All the above mentioned castes claim Kshatriya status. But we all know, how disputable these claims are.
  3. The rigmarole that is the Varna System is known to us all. For example, the Jats, who in the Vedic and Mythological periods were workers should be placed in the Shudra Category under the Varna System. But many Jats clans consider themselves the equal and perhaps the superior of Rajputs as adhrents of Kshatriya Dharma. My own caste, the Khatris and related groups such as Aroras claim Kshatriya status. But we have seen on the Khatri page as to what became of that claim.
  4. Ahirs, Gujjars and Yadavs are considered to be OBCs in most Indian states inspite of their being the descendants of ancient Abhiras, Gurjaras and Yadus. There is a controversy raging on the Yadav page presently if I am not wrong, on the status of the caste.

Taking all these points into consideration and being aware of the fact that there are users (say SanjayMohan and Holywarrior), who have caused great disputes on various caste pages, I proposed categories such as "Kambojs and related groups" (Kamboj, Kamboja, Kamboh and Khasa) and "Gujjars and realted groups" (Ahirs, Gujjars, Dhangars and Bakarwals). But Satbir Singh and another user named Sze cavalry01 objected to it. They returned to "Ancient Kshatriya Tribes". I did a little compromise by making it "Ancient Warrior Tribes", which I later realised would also be POV. Therefore, I changed it to just "Ancient Tribes" - A completely unspeculative term.

However, Satbir Singh does not agree. He calls it a "gross suppression of known historical facts", "a crime against history" and "a political agenda" and has termed me a "Vandal". I have put forward my points. But both of us are yet to agree.

I have fighting a revert war with him for almost a week now. Have a look at the template's history page and Satbir Singh's talk page to get a complete idea of the whole fracas.

This fight has become downright silly. I surely don't expect myself to spend my time, money and energy on such a silly matter. And I am sure neither does the other party.

This is how that great truth you told me has finally dawned on my mind. I am really sorry and want to apologize for the unkind comments that I made sometime back.

Regards. Rajatjghai 02:39, 21 July 2006 (UTC)

I have, as of now, protected the page to prevent this major revert war. Please discuss changes and reach consensus on the template's talk page.--May the Force be with you! Shreshth91($ |-| ŗ 3 $ |-| ţ |-|) 04:48, 21 July 2006 (UTC)

Help with Photos

Hi, ImphuMozi. I've been meaning to add in the images for a while, at the moment I'm having some problems sorting the copyrights and changing the size of the images I have added for Sawai Man Singh (as well as where to put the captions). I would appreciate some help, and will try to contribute more soon. Thanks.

ImpuMozhi. Thanks for the explanation about the images uploaded in Misplaced Pages, they are certainly useful to know. With regards to Image:SMS3.jpg (the one with Gayatri devi), I can pretty much confirmed that it belonged to some one in the family and was lent to the publisher. So in this case I'm not sure where the copywrite falls? Devraj Singh.

Hi ImpuMozhi, it took a while for me to get back to the Image of Sawai Man Singh as I have been having some problems with my family (the typical Greedy Uncle scenario faced by most Rajput families in this age of final decline). Many thanks with your assistance once again, you are the real wikipedia Guru ji.

Article on Belgaum

Hi, Why did you revert my minor editing of the article Belgaum. "Belgaum" is the only way to write it in english and not "Belgavi". Additionally about 70% of the people in and around are Belgaum are Marathi, thus it is more appropriate to give it's pronounciation in Marathi. In fact both Marathi and Kannada people pronounce it as "Belgav" and not "Belgavi". You should have discussed the topic if you don't know about Belgaum. --Sandipani 13:29, 26 July 2006 (UTC)

License tagging for Image:Lady with lamp.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Lady with lamp.jpg. Misplaced Pages gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Misplaced Pages, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Misplaced Pages:Media copyright questions. 17:07, 28 July 2006 (UTC)

1107

Nothing to do with dates. Tintin was already taken by someone else. I wanted to append a number that would make the nickname unique across wikipedia and other sites and 1107 was the first number that came to mind. ( 952 is a more significant number, but it is not something that fills an Indian with pride). Silly, really :) Tintin (talk) 10:06, 30 July 2006 (UTC)

It is in the first quarter of the year. Don't want to say it here, but can tell you either by mail or IRC. Tintin (talk) 07:32, 31 July 2006 (UTC)

Maharajas of Burdwan

ImpuMozhi: You are engaging in vandalism. The Maharajas of Burdwan are known in literature as "Maharajas of Burdwan". Most ruling families have risen from humble positions. They are indentified by their most common and most recent titles.--ISKapoor 19:08, 30 July 2006 (UTC)

Many thanks!

My dear friend, I am very grateful to you. During my RfA, I was very, very touched with the outpouring of affection and faith in me, and I feel the same way now. I've really enjoyed the year I've spent on WP, not becoz of the FAs I've written but becoz I have the company and support of people like you. I really enjoy the teamwork. If you ever need help with anything, you only have to drop a note. I think I'll be hyperactive for one more week, then come down to a more sober, healthier rate. I'll prolly create Misplaced Pages:Wikiholics Not-so-anonymous next week, but in the meantime, Cheers! Rama's arrow 03:18, 31 July 2006 (UTC)

Unspecified source for Image:Gandhi Boer War 1899.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Gandhi Boer War 1899.jpg. I notice the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this file yourself, then there needs to be a justification explaining why we have the right to use it on Misplaced Pages (see copyright tagging below). If you did not create the file yourself, then you need to specify where it was found, i.e., in most cases link to the website where it was taken from, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the file also doesn't have a copyright tag, then one should be added. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Misplaced Pages:Fair use, use a tag such as {{fairusein|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Misplaced Pages:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Misplaced Pages:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Jkelly 20:35, 6 August 2006 (UTC)

Error on Template:Welcomelaws

Hello. Please see Template talk:Welcomelaws.

Syama Sastry

Hi. I'm not sure if you carefully read the license you added to Syama_sastry.jpg. It says that a picture of a postage stamp can be used only if it is meant to illustrate the stamp itself, and not anything displayed on the stamp. However, it is evident that this image, when used on the Syama Sastry page, is meant to illustrate the composer, and not the stamp. Thus, I think it would be better to use some other image (of which there are many freely available). --Siva 17:10, 17 August 2006 (UTC)
