Welcome—request protection of a page, file, or template here.
    Shortcuts

Before requesting, read the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to high-risk templates; semi-protection and pending changes are usually used to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection); and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars. Extended confirmed protection is used where semi-protection has proved insufficient (see the rough guide to extended confirmed protection)

After a page has been protected, it is listed in the page history and logs with a short rationale, and the article is listed on Special:Protectedpages. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins should not revert to specific versions of the page, except to get rid of obvious vandalism.

    SkyDrive (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

Semi-protection, move-protection, 30 days: Overwhelming lack of regard for WP:V, WP:AT, WP:CRYSTAL, WP:BRD. In 7 hours, four users (41.191.235.138, 216.68.75.2, TheIntersect, Gparyani) changed the article with a disputed claim (See Talk:SkyDrive § Not yet OneDrive) that the subject's name is already changed to "OneDrive". The latter two even acted on moving the page to OneDrive. (A fifth user, 2.29.5.37, changed other articles to link to OneDrive.) This claim, however, has failed verification and are disputed. This name change has not happened yet; Microsoft might change decision midway and choose another name. (It did change mind once with this very same subject!) But if so many users have done it over 7 hours, experience tells me we should expect a torrent of such changes. Best regards, Codename Lisa (talk) 22:15, 28 January 2014 (UTC)

    El Clásico (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

Pending-change protection or Semi-protection: Persistent and long-term IP vandalism. For example, see this recent diff, which shows almost no permanent changes to the article over 73 edits - in that period almost every edit was vandalism, or reversion of it. Similar patterns are apparent over a much longer period of time. The article was previously semi-protected last April, and vandalism resumed within a week of protection being removed. Temporary semi-protection: Persistent sockpuppetry – A target of a sockpuppeting troll. —Ryūlóng (琉竜) 15:12, 28 January 2014 (UTC)

Please do not semi-protect my talk page. I'd don't want my talk page to be protected against any IP posting there. The IPs/socks posting are not causing any harm. Here are the relevant posts (I don't know if you even care): , , , , , X96lee15 (talk) 15:23, 28 January 2014 (UTC)
No IP has posted on X96lee15's talk page that has not been operated by the troll who has been harassing me and X96lee15 has been enabling him by refusing to remove the comments that have been left.—Ryūlóng (琉竜) 15:26, 28 January 2014 (UTC)
At the end of the day, it's X96lee15's prerogative as to what they keep, and what they don't. If they don't want their talk page protected, it is inappropriate for it to be, and you should withdraw this request. Lukeno94 (tell Luke off here) 15:45, 28 January 2014 (UTC)
And edit warring to keep out a reliable reference, when more people view it as helpful than unhelpful, is why you've landed yourself in this mess in the first place, Ryulong. Lukeno94 (tell Luke off here) 15:49, 28 January 2014 (UTC)
The troll began harassing me because of edits to Bleach (anime) and he persisted in following me to University of Miami (which no one has edited in over a week). And don't lecture me on this. I am not withdrawing this request. This has been done in good faith to prevent further disruption to the project by the harasser which for whatever reason has shifted to constantly messaging X96lee15 and X96lee15 enabling him by not removing the trolling messages which should be removed per WP:DENY and WP:TPO.—Ryūlóng (琉竜) 15:53, 28 January 2014 (UTC)
Declined – Not enough recent disruptive activity to justify protection. --slakr 01:12, 29 January 2014 (UTC)

    Template:Progress line 6 (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs)

Indefinite template protection: Highly visible template – Used in {{Progress box daily}}, which has a bunch of transclusions; furthermore, progress lines 3 and 4 are admin-protected (hopefully soon to be TE-protected). APerson (talk!) 15:11, 28 January 2014 (UTC)

Semi-protected for a period of 3 weeks, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. I have been warned not to use template protection. Come back in three weeks if it's still needed and have another sysop review the request. Bearian (talk) 18:11, 28 January 2014 (UTC)

    Julian Casablancas‎ (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

Semi-protection: Persistent disruptive edits by various IPs in the wake of Random Access Memories winning the Grammy Award for Album of the Year. TheOnlyOne12 (talk) 23:30, 28 January 2014 (UTC)

Declined, He's been warned. Your sig is doing something weird, your timestamp time hasn't occurred yet GedUK  13:06, 28 January 2014 (UTC)

    Shortcuts

Before posting, first discuss with the protecting admin on their talk page. Post below only if you receive no reply.

    • To find out the username of the admin who protected the page, click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page," which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
    • Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
    • Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
    • If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page, please add {{Edit fully-protected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected, please use the section below.

Check the archives if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

    Template:Height (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs)

Indefinite template protection: Highly visible template – I'm requesting the protection level on this be lowered to  Template editor to allow me to fix the outdated code by removing the deprecated <font> tags and to make a modification to accept cm as an input unit of which there seems to be a consensus for as outlined in my Edit protected request on the bottom of the page. There is still an ongoing RfC on allowing the template to output cm as a value, and consensus seems to be forming to allow this, but it hasn't been closed as such yet and therefor my existing edit request does not include that ability. Thank you. Technical 13 (talk) 18:54, 28 January 2014 (UTC)

Current requests for edits to a protected page

Further information: Misplaced Pages:Edit requests Shortcut

Ideally, requests should be made on the article talk page rather than here.

    • Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add the appropriate template among {{Edit protected}}, {{Edit template-protected}}, {{Edit extended-protected}}, or {{Edit semi-protected}} to the article's talk page if you would like to make a change rather than requesting it here. Doing so will automatically place the page in the appropriate category for the request to be reviewed.
    • Where requests are made due to the editor having a conflict of interest (COI; see Misplaced Pages:Suggestions for COI compliance), the {{Edit COI}} template should be used.
    • Requests to move move-protected pages should be made at Misplaced Pages:Requested moves, not here.
    • If the discussion page and the article are both protected preventing you from making an edit request, this page is the right place to make that request. Please see the top of this page for instructions on how to post requests.
    • This page is not for continuing or starting discussions regarding content should both an article and its discussion page be protected. Please make a request only if you have a specific edit you wish to make.

    Fulfilled/denied requests

A rolling archive of the last seven days of protection requests can be found at Misplaced Pages:Requests for page protection/Rolling archive.
