The Barnstar of Anonymous Contribution | ||
I hereby award you, the anonymous contributors hailing from 156.34.0.0 - 156.34.255.255, with The Barnstar of Anonymous Contribution, for the unsung and thankless service you have rendered unto Misplaced Pages, in your countless minor edits and bigger contributions over time. They have made a difference in our community and hopefully retelling this event to the barmen you encounter may bring forth the odd free beer to wrap in your hand. Thanks!--Alf 14:23, 3 April 2007 (UTC) and Bubba hotep 14:24, 3 April 2007 (UTC) |
- tears, smiles, waves to the audience as he walks down the podium, kisses losing IPs on the cheek. 156.34 is a team of bored librarians(and the occasional vandalising student...but we'll ignore them). On behalf of the "library crew"..we thank you for the token of Wiki-appreciation. 156.34.142.110 14:35, 3 April 2007 (UTC)
Actually, this has more historical significance than appears on the surface. You see, this is probably the only Barnstar young Alfred has given out this year (something about losing the keys to the cabinet or something) so, as such, is rare indeed. Guard it with your life. ;) Bubba hotep 14:49, 3 April 2007 (UTC)

So here is a barnstar for being my unofficial mentor and for giving me some great times on Misplaced Pages. It's also for cleaning up a lot of the junk that makes it onto here... Tally Ho! Take care, friend. Scarian 14:11, 27 October 2007 (UTC) |
WP:RFCU
Could use some help deciding which code at the top of that page Navnlos and his sock(s), broke? Any ideas? We know he evaded his 3RR block but do they count as community bans/blocks?! Scarian 08:43, 10 December 2007 (UTC)
- Misplaced Pages:Requests for checkuser/Case/Navnløs - Okay, it's built. Take a peek. Gotta wait for a clerk to put it up there though. May the Force be with us! Scarian 10:54, 10 December 2007 (UTC)

- Yeah, him and I were talking on an IRC channel and he admitted that he didn't have the balls because Navnlos "makes good edits". I don't blame him (He even offered to nominate me for adminship). You can't walk into these things gun-ho like Ryulong does. Never mind. He's been warned. He slips up once more and he's gone from this place for good. Scarian 12:51, 11 December 2007 (UTC)

Question
Hmmm...I see you also seem to be pals with welt there. My question is how exactly do you think the Fredrik Nordstrom pic is violating a rule? It doesn't make sense! All the other members of Dream Evil have pics and the same explanation! What do you want!? Do you just not want a picture of him to be there or what? What exactly has to be done to use the pic, geez? Blizzard Beast 19:42, 12 December 2007 (UTC)
- All of that user's uploads are copyvio and have been reported to an admin to service them out. Basically... on Wiki nowadays... if you didn't take the picture yourself... it won't pass the WP:FAIR test. Band websites, amateur fanzines/fansites, flickr... etc are all poor sources for images as most of them... especially fansites... are already copyvio on the pages that are sourcing them. If a band page says all rights reserved... it shouldn't be used. And if you see any go ahead and tag them so they can be deleted. 156.34.142.110 (talk) 19:51, 12 December 2007 (UTC)
Regarding Citations
Can a particular band's webpage be used for citing it's article? I wanted to add citations for Overkill, and all I found was one review by some guy from AMG, with other sites basically copying that review. I don't know of any other sites from where I can get citations, atleast not pro sites. Welt 01:25, 16 December 2007 (UTC)
- It's best if the references are verifiable, third party sources. Or else they may suffer from being biased. Scarian 18:58, 16 December 2007 (UTC)
- Sometimes band homepages actually host news article and interviews from external news/media sources... which are perfectly fine... better than a fansite hosting them because a fansite is a WP:EL issue (don't link to a website hosting copyvio content) At least with a band webpage we can ASSume they have permission. If the site seems "self-authored" then it should be used because it doesn't pass WP:V for reliability... a band site promotes... and sometimes promoting=peacocking. Hope that helps. 156.34.142.110 (talk) 14:24, 17 December 2007 (UTC)

Colour on Template:Extreme metal
Stop changing the colour. We did a lot of work to get it to show the v/d/e whilst using black and WP:GENRE is an inactive project and is not the set in stone guideline for colours. And also, the colour red is for heavy metal, not ext. metal. Thundermaster 14:57, 19 December 2007 (UTC)
- I've commented on your Editor review, Thundermaster. Scarian 15:39, 19 December 2007 (UTC)
- The colour is for anything associated with hm. Misplaced Pages isn't some dumbass fansite. It's not supposed to look like a book report done by a 12 year old. It's an encyclopedia. With guidelines and standards. If you are trying to produce a MySpace page... go to MySpace. But if your are trying to create something 'encyclopedic'... then make something that looks cold, stale, boring... BUT... consistent. Try not to edit heavy metal pages like a "heavy metal stereotype" fan would. A level 4 shop class student would say... "Hey MAN!... it's not METAL!.. unless it's black!"... Think above the bar. Whether the project is active or not.. is not up to anyone's personal POV to decide. If you want to have a different colour as the standard for heavy metal related articles... then you should go through the effort of putting your opinion through the proper Misplaced Pages process. Otherwise... you're doing nothing other than violating WP:OWN just to push your pov over which colour looks more "metal"?!?!?! I expected more than that from a experienced editor. I was wrong. Cheesy username BTW... sorry :D... it just brings an image of a fat girl in a leather jacket squeezing an "only on TV" workout machine between her legs... :D ... but it's "metal" I guess? No offence... to me all usernames are cheesy.. and useless. It's why I don't use one anymore. :D 156.34.142.110 (talk) 15:41, 19 December 2007 (UTC)
- Sorry about my recent comments, I should be more polite and always AGF. Also, your comment on usernames, I chose Thundermaster because it makes me feel powerful, but you're right, most usernames give a stupid picture and sound really cheesy. Thundermaster 14:30, 22 December 2007 (UTC)
Rickenbacker Register
Hello. I am wondering what exactly is WP:EL violation in linking Rickenbacker Register?GilbsonLP (talk) 16:38, 19 December 2007 (UTC)
- The main page isn't dedicated to the article subject and is not much more than a forum host. I can feel "Christmas'y" and ignore it if you want to put it back. Happy Holidays. 156.34.142.110 (talk) 16:58, 19 December 2007 (UTC)
- Thank you for your answer
Indeed - the main "feature" of rickresource is the forum, however - it is the most popular Rickenbacker forum with participants from Rickenbacker corporation, additionally - the main site DOES contain original published material by Peter McCormack, a professor at STU. I agree - the old content is a bit messed up and hard to browse, but there are many useful articles there: from technical articles written by Rickenbacker luthiers to Psychological analysis of Rickenbacker guitars and history as well as the effect of Rickenbacker guitars on other bands (like the Beatles, Searchers, etc...) (again - all published material with references to other published material). I would have preferred just linking rickresource directly, but for some reason it gets to a EL editing war which I have no intention of getting into. So, do you still think this site is a WP:EL violation? Thanks and Marry Christmas. GilbsonLP (talk) 06:25, 20 December 2007 (UTC)

Metallica
It does look very bad, but I'm not sure what to do - there are sources for everything in that paragraph further down the page, although it could be a bit more neutral. I made a small attempt here... any other suggestions? Funeral 18:24, 28 December 2007 (UTC)
AfD nomination of List of NWOBHM artists
An editor has nominated List of NWOBHM artists, an article on which you have worked or that you created, for deletion. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Misplaced Pages's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also "What Misplaced Pages is not").
Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Misplaced Pages:Articles for deletion/List of NWOBHM artists and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).
You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 19:29, 4 January 2008 (UTC)
List of thrash metal bands
Well, as you said, I have added a few lines to the intro. I was also thinking about adding a short description for certain key bands of the scene (done so for metallica as of now, also those featured lists have been great help). But, coming to the point, I remember you talking about adding images to the list. I thought of adding certain key albums, or logos of key bands to the list. But the fair use rationale limits usage of album covers to the album articles. Well, that's the problem, and yeah, a very happy new year to you! Welt 14:09, 7 January 2008 (UTC)
Do you mean to say that band logos are (or will be) "non-fair use" on their respective band articles? I get your fair-use v/s free-use point, the images will only be cosmetic and not really contribute to the page. Welt 16:04, 7 January 2008 (UTC)
Libsey!
Hey pal, how go's? I see you beat me to the Oasis punch... We'll just have to wait and see how I get you back for that :-D - I haven't noticed any Nav edits around at all... maybe he changed username? He'd stick out like a sore thumb still. Oh and please don't retire! I need you! I actually emailed User:Acalamari about some image advice and I told them about the AfD cock up and they said not to AfD anything else until next month to "allow the dust to settle". I hope you're well and I know that Misplaced Pages is safe in your Crazy Canuck hands! :-D Scarian 20:15, 8 January 2008 (UTC)

I hadn't seen it around for awhile that why I mentioned it to John as a potential moot SOS call. I think the BOTS really task the system when they are running. Hopefully it's not down for good and just being tweaked and streamlined. 156.34.142.110 (talk) 16:45, 9 January 2008 (UTC)
- Found it. The bot is gone because its owner... Shadow1... has retired from Misplaced Pages. Too bad. It was a good bot. Some bot owners get a lot of grief. A lot of people hate Betacommand's pic bot. It makes the odd error. But I personally love it. So what about the occasional foul-up. Sometimes you have to break a few eggs. 156.34.142.110 (talk) 16:54, 9 January 2008 (UTC)

Good news! I was the 8th (I counted because I'm going to brag about it as a trophy) non-admin to get the admin rollback... Which means I'm gonna be up there vandal hunting with KoS... and maybe Alf if he has a few coffee's :-D - Well anyways, that's for my bragging done for tonight... I haven't actually rolled anything back and I'm pretty sure I don't want to screw up so I should start reading. Wish me luck! Scarian 23:47, 9 January 2008 (UTC)

One more to end the day...
The band Rusty Eye has 90% of its edits from a user named... guess what?... Rusty Eye. I smell COI. The band has enough label, publication links (incl an AMG link) so I don't see NN there (maybe you might see something I don't) But I think they are fluffed up by someone in their camp. 156.34.142.110 (talk) 21:07, 10 January 2008 (UTC)

I am not gratuitously removing content from Misplaced Pages. I am protesting against the definition of Trivia. It's outrageous that my edit are trivia, while the remaining part of the subsection about the same issue and the same subject is not. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.185.106.178 (talk) 10:55, 15 January 2008 (UTC)
