Saints
Agios is also a transliteration of Greek 'Άγιος', meaning 'Holy'. It is equivalent to the English-language epithet 'Saint'. For example, St John is known in Greek and related languages as 'Agios Ioannis'. Greek 'Άγιος' may also be transliterated as 'Aghios'. See also Agioi (meaning 'Saints') and Agia (the female epithet).
