The units were built by Leyland, constructed mainly from bus parts. The units were notoriously unreliable and uncomfortable and were generally unpopular with both drivers and passengers. Some were sold to Islamic Republic of Iran Railways, one unit has been preserved at the Midland Railway Centre.
