DescriptionЛаврентіївський літопис.pdf English: Full PDF file of the Laurentian Codex (Lav.), a manuscript collection containing copies of the Primary Chronicle (PVL), the Suzdalian Chronicle (until 1203), and a unique "Laurentian continuation" of the Suzdalian Chronicle. The text is written in the Old East Slavic recension of Church Slavonic, and displays linguistic features, provenance, and topical focus from northeastern Rus', historiographically known as Vladimir-Suzdal or Suzdalia. According to the text, the Codex was composed in 1377 in Nizhny Novgorod (then part of the Principality of Nizhny Novgorod-Suzdal) by a monk named Lavrenti (Laurentius), after whom it is named. The Codex was rediscovered in 1792 by Aleksei Musin-Pushkin in the Holy Virgin Nativity Monastery (Богородице-Рождественский монастырь Bogoroditse-Rozhdestvenskij monastyrʹ) in Vladimir on the Klyazma. As Lav. contains the oldest-known copy of the PVL and Suzdalian Chronicle, it has acquired major significance for textual criticism of the Primary Chronicle and the Suzdalian, and the historiography of Kievan Rus' and Suzdalia. The closet copies to the Laurentian Codex are the Radziwiłł Chronicle alias Königsberg Manuscript (see File:Радзивіллівський літопис.pdf) and the (Moscow) Academic Chronicle (Московско-Академическая летопись, see File:Moscow Academic Chronicle.pdf; confusingly sometimes also called "Suzdal' Chronicle") until 1203, after which the texts diverge in contents and add their own continuations. Also significant for the first half are the Hypatian Codex (see File:Hypatian Codex.pdf) and Khlebnikov Codex (see File:Khlebnikov Codex.pdf), which, however, from the mid-12th century focus more on events in southern Rus' (modern-day Ukraine) and eventually southwestern Rus' (Galicia–Volhynia), concluding events in 1291–2.
