Mohammed Taufiq bin Johari (Jawi: محمّد توفيق بن جوهري; born 6 March 1996) is a Malaysian politician who has served as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Sungai Petani since November 2022. He is a member of the People's Justice Party (PKR), a component party of the Pakatan Harapan (PH) coalition. He served as the State and Division Youth Chief of Kedah and Sungai Petani of PH and PKR. He is the sole Kedah PH MP and son of the Speaker of the Dewan Rakyat and former Sungai Petani MP, Johari Abdul. He is also presently the youngest MP at the age of 28.
Early life and education
Mohammed Taufiq was born in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on 6 March 1996. He is the sixth child of Johari and Noraini Mohd who had eight children together. He has seven siblings. He attended school at Gombak High School, Selangor before furthering his studies at the Bandung Islamic University as a Doctor of Medicine (MD).
Personal life
On 9 March 2024, he married 26-year-old Fathiya Ainul Mardhiyah Andri Nopendra of Indonesia in a wedding ceremony held at the Sungai Petani Municipal Council (MPSPK) hall which was attended by his parents, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, Minister of Home Affairs Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, Minister of Domestic Trade and Costs of Living Armizan Mohd Ali, President of the Dewan Negara Mutang Tagal, Inspector-General of Police Razarudin Husain, other MPs and foreign dignitaries.
