Dniester salad (Ukrainian: салат Днiстер) – Ukrainian salad with slightly crushed cabbage, sliced semi-smoked sausage, canned green peas and mayonnaise .
According to legend, in the 1960s, the salad Dniester was invented by the chef of the Chernivtsi restaurant «Dniester» (named after Dniester river), located on Olha Kobylyanska Street, No. 7. The Dniester became the restaurant’s signature salad, as well as a popular recipe for home cooking its taste, ease of preparation and not expensive ingredients. Later, the salad allegedly won a prize at the Culinary Competition in Moscow .
In addition to the main ingredients, the salad is prepared with the addition of onions, herbs, sugar, and decorated with boiled eggs on top .
