Google Video Marketplace was announced in a presentation at the 2006 Consumer Electronics Show.

"Google's innovative presentation of information and content is revolutionizing the way people access media," said National Basketball Association Commissioner David Stern. "In the increasingly competitive and rapidly changing world of entertainment, Google Video provides us with a new way to deliver the NBA experience to our fans when and how they want it."

The service was unsuccessful and was discontinued in August, 2007.

Programming

CBS

Offerings from CBS will include shows from the station's past and present lineups, and other shows from its library.

CBS programs are not available to purchase in many countries, even close US neighbours like Canada.

NBA

Full basketball games will be available for purchase. Games are available for 24 hours after the game finishes. It is unknown if NBA videos will be eventually available for longer periods of time. Major games of the season will also be available. Available for US$3.99 per game.

Classic Media

"Classic" cartoons
Episodes of animated series such as Rocky and Bullwinkle and Casper the Friendly Ghost (over 100 episodes), and animated shorts from series such as Felix the Cat. Not confirmed to be available, but also owned by the company are The Lone Ranger, Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, Mr. Magoo, series starring Shari Lewis and Lambchop, Underdog, and Lassie (600 episodes).

Google has not yet said which programs will be available through Image. Properties Image own distribution to include The Richard Pryor Show, lesser-known horror movies like Monsters Crash the Pajama Party, small market movies like Paris Hilton picture The Hillz, music content like Cher The Farewell Tour, comedy specials by Jeff Foxworthy and Jamie Foxx, and "mature" content using the Playboy and Penthouse brands.

Collection includes Alfred Hitchcock's The Man Who Knew Too Much, The Lucy Show, Ozzie and Harriet, and Petticoat Junction.

Plum TV

Google has not yet said which programs will be available through Plum TV, a local station in the Hamptons. Programs include living artist profile Artist's Studio, professionally-produced sock-puppet program Cheap Show, and comedy-cooking show KitchenMC.

Trinity Broadcasting Network

Google has not yet said which programs will be available through TBN. Programs likely to be available through this particular station are Manna from Heaven and This Is Your Day, both with Benny Hinn, and the long-running The 700 Club.

WGBH

Google has not yet said which programs will be available through WGBH and WGBH Forum Network.
